Michelle Truslow
Michelle is the potter behind Cape Charles Mudworks. It is heart and hand made pottery on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Virginia.
Our family first discovered Cape Charles when we vacationed here in 2012 on the recommendation of a family friend. Like so many people who come to Cape Charles and fall in love with its small town charm and beautiful Bay, we dreamed of owning a little piece of it one day. Fast forward to 2016 when we bought a historic farmette just outside of town. It only took 2 years for us to go from part time residents to moving here full time.
In 2021 I started taking pottery classes at ESO Arts Center in Belle Haven. I was hooked immediately. I received expert instruction from Nancy Gormley and Jaime Kirkpatrick. To say I’m obsessed with this art form is putting it mildly. I subsequently built a home studio and created Cape Charles Mudworks in July of ’22. My wheel thrown and hand built pottery draws inspiration from the unmatched natural beauty of the Eastern Shore. The tableware I love to create is influenced heavily from the waterways and sea life that surround our gorgeous peninsula. My dream is to create pieces that speak to people who find this place as magical as I do.
